That’s one way to trim your police force down. Put up roadblocks so they can’t do their job. It’s interesting to see politics clashing with reality. Democrats want to defund their police forces to appear to support minorities but that same police force is still needed. There needs to be confidence that calling 911 for help gets the job done. The press has been silent about a citizen police force or social workers on the street.
The job can’t be done
Democrats have spoken of fundamentally transforming America. It’s continuing under Biden. Neuter law enforcement so those in the field can’t do their job. The more unrest the better.
In an effort to keep people from dying as a result of being chased, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is considering forcing police to ask permission to chase. “No one should die as a result of a foot chase,” she declared.
Caught in the crossfire
You can be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The teenager Adam Toledo was quickly set up by Ruben Roman who handed the 13 year old a gun he’d just used to fire at a vehicle.
In a police officer’s job, they can encounter deadly kids. There are third world countries at war that use kids to send bombs into places. It’s human to not want to suspect kids. That’s part of survival of the species to allow offspring to live.
Police may initially want to do their job
Why would you sign up otherwise? Some want to help others, some see law enforcement as a way to do that.
Alderman Brian Hopkins showed people the mirror. Asking permission is silly. “Of course that raises obvious problems. In the time it would take to do that, the person you’re supposed to be chasing is actually long gone. The point would be moot then.” Criminals are actually very smart. “We’re seeing more vehicles flee from police officers because word has gotten out that they’re probably not going to get permission to chase you.”
The mayor’s job is to protect as well
Although she might not act like it. So it was a surprise to see her publicly admit Hopkins might be right. Chicago is arguably a war zone with 2020 seeing an enormous jump in deaths from firearms.
Lightfoot noted, “I don’t want people out there who are dangerous to think, ‘well, if I just run, then I’m safe. I can continue to wreak havoc.’ We can’t live in that world either.” It will be interesting to see how the mayor both allows the police to do their job and makes the mob happy.
