Liberal Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot wants to strip away the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens to make the streets safer for lawless anarchists. Lightfoot admits that gun violence is out of control in her city. Now that the police have been defunded, gun toting nationalists might just decide to defend their shops and homes from looters and arsonists. There are “easy things” which can be done to eliminate the recent spike in killings, starting with more gun control.
Chicago resists federal help
As reported by the Chicago Tribune, Lightfoot was terrified when President Trump suggested he might send in federal troops to restore law and order. Leaders, the Tribune writes, “in Democrat-run cities, particularly Chicago, have seemingly acquiesced to gun violence in their streets.”
“If the president was really committed to helping us deal with our violence,” Lightfoot laments, “he would do some easy things. What he would push for is universal background checks, he would push for an assault weapons ban, he would push to make sure that people who are banned from getting on airplanes can’t get guns.” Besides the fact that their aren’t any police to enforce the laws, now that they’ve been defunded and all, Chicago already has a ban on assault weapons.
Lightfoot wants to make sure that no law abiding citizen has one. Only anarchists will have them that way and they’ll have less to fear on their next home invasion. The gangsters already feel much safer. It’s been known for a long time that Chicago “criminals acquire their guns from dark sources rather than retail stores, gun shows, the internet,” and other legitimate places.
The wonders of anarchy
On Wednesday alone in Chicago, ten people were shot and two of those were killed. The city has returned to the anarchy of the wild-wild west as rival gangsters battle it out for turf and profits while the police are prevented from doing anything about it.
Wednesday afternoon two men were “driving through an alley at about 3:41 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Throop Street when someone unleashed gunfire.” One “was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.” The other “was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the neck and pronounced dead about half an hour later.”
Without police around to enforce the laws, Chicago citizens decide to do it themselves. When a “41-year-old got into an argument with a female just before 8 p.m. in the 5800 block of West Iowa Street, police said. The female then pulled out a gun and shot the man in the leg, chest and neck.” That’ll teach him.
One South Side man was dangerously minding his own business on his own porch “at about 5:45 p.m. in the 5900 block of South Hermitage Avenue when someone in a dark-colored Nissan sedan fired shots, police said. The 31-year-old was struck in the arm and taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.” There were a variety of other shootings that day, none of them particularly noteworthy for Chicago. Most of them were hit by stray shrapnel from bullets that just casually whiz through the neighborhoods. The last thing that Lori Lightfoot wants to see is for federal troops to come in and put a stop to it.
