A man from safe, rural, conservative Kansas was shot by a stray bullet on April 7 during his first visit to Democrat run New York City. The Kansas man, an innocent tourist in the process of walking to his hotel, was struck in the shoulder after witnessing an altercation between two men which erupted into wild gunfire. Manhattan, once considered to be one of the safer urban areas in America, has become increasingly violent and crime ridden.
Shot on the street
The victim of the shooting, Chris Ruby, had intended to fly home to Kansas later in the day, plans which were complicated somewhat by his hospital stay.
Ruby was fortunately not severely injured and was released in stable condition after five hours in the hospital.
Police confirmed that Ruby was not the intended target of the gunman, identified as 21 year old Brannovan Martinez, who is now under arrest and facing multiple charges related to the shooting.
The cause of the altercation which led to the shooting and the identity of the man for whom the shot was intended has not been announced.
The incident occurred shortly after 2 A.M. on the corner of West 38th Street and Eighth Avenue on Wednesday, April 7.
Ruby at the time was returning to his hotel after a brief trip to Philadelphia to watch the Mets defeat the Phillies.
Crime rising in American cities
While Ruby was lucky enough to escape from the incident with only minor injuries, his brush with death is another reminder of the danger of visiting leftist run cities which have increasingly given free reign to criminals.
With police under attack and criminals being coddled, American cities are becoming places to avoid for many would-be tourists who can see what is happening.
Normal Americans are finding that it is unsafe for them to simply walk through their own cities in 2021.
International tourists are surely beginning to take notice as well, with the unprecedented levels of acquiescence to violent criminals which occurred in 2020 still fresh in all minds.
While cities like New York will be desperate to begin attracting tourists again after the Coronavirus chaos, the knowledge that innocent people like Chris Ruby are being shot at random in the streets could cripple local tourism industries.
American cities have apparently decided that they prefer to protect their criminals rather rather than normal citizens and visitors, and the world will be taking notice.
