Bankruptcy

Disgraced Democrat Hits Rock Bottom

Katie Hill, a disgraced Democratic congresswoman from California applied for bankruptcy, one year after losing an almost $300,000 revenge pornography suit against four other parties, the LA times reported.

The occasion took place when Hill took legal action against a site, a British tabloid, and two reporters for supposedly sharing and releasing the previous congresswoman’s salacious material without getting her authorization.

Hill was obliged to pay the lawyers’ expenses for each of the various offenders she took legal action against after a judge dropped her case in June 2021. These payments amounted to nearly $300,000.

Hill’s lawyer, Carrie Goldberg, declares that because of the financial toll that the several thousand dollars in payments would have on her, the former congressman “had no choice” however to declare personal bankruptcy.

“It’s a broken system where a plaintiff’s sensible use of our legal system to adjudicate fundamental breaches to their sexual privacy results in such financially punishing consequences for daring to file a legal case that bankruptcy is the last resort,” Goldberg told the L.A. Times on Tuesday, shortly after Hill filed for bankruptcy.

When she flipped a congressional district that included many of northern Los Angeles and eastern Ventura counties, Hill initially made headlines in 2018.

In 2019, conservative sites apparently released naked photos of Hill. The congresswoman eventually resigned from her position later on in 2019 and submitted the revenge pornography suit against two conservative sites and two reporters a couple of months later on.

The previous congressman owed around $275,000 total in lawyers’ expenses to the four parties, along with $100,000 to her own lawyers, according to the courts that ruled versus Hill.

Hill likewise spoke up on Tuesday, requiring to Twitter to reveal how she does not be sorry for submitting the claim versus the celebrations.

Here’s what the 34-year-old former California representative tweeted:

“Victims of our cyber exploitation are being let down by our legal system, and I have gotten an unfortunately personal look at the damage that can do. When a vengeful person, political opponents, and a global tabloid conspired to take me and publish naked photos of me — including those taken without my knowledge or consent — a judge ruled that my naked body was in the public interest, and that I have no right to hold accountable those responsible for this assault to my privacy and dignity.”

“The consequences to me personally meant that I had to recently file bankruptcy. Still, I don’t regret doing so, despite the severe and lasting financial repercussions of the offensive and just plain wrong ruling.”
