Hundreds of passengers were forced to evacuate a plane at Orlando International Airport after the Delta jet’s engine caught fire on the tarmac.
The incident occurred on April 21 at around 11:15 a.m. on Delta Airlines Flights 1213, an Airbus 330. The plane was preparing for departure for a quick flight to Atlanta, Georgia, and was just leaving the gate when one of its engines burst into flames.
All 282 passengers, along with 10 flight attendants and two pilots, were forced to evacuate the plane via the emergency slide.
Footage of the incident went viral on social media, which showed massive flames shooting out of the engine on the right side of the plane while passengers were sliding out of the aircraft using the emergency slide.

Delta Airlines noted in a statement that the plane’s crew had ordered the evacuation after noticing a fire in the tailpipe of the engine.
Reports indicate that there were no injuries during the incident, and all passengers were transported back to the terminal and given the opportunity to take a different flight to Atlanta. Fire crews at the airport were able to contain the flames.

It is still unclear at this time what caused the fire, though the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident. Delta Airlines’ maintenance team will also be examining the aircraft to determine the cause of the fire.
“We appreciate our customers’ cooperation and apologize for the experience. Nothing is more important than safety and Delta teams will work to get our customers to their final destinations as soon as possible,” Delta explained in a statement.
This news comes as there have been several high-profile plane crashes and malfunctions, which Democrats have blamed on the Trump administration despite them only being in office for a few months. Republicans, on the other hand, have blamed the disasters on airlines’ embrace of woke so-called “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” (DEI) initiatives. Notably, Delta is still promoting DEI.
