As his final act as governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam decided to pardon a former Democrat state senator who is a convicted child molester.
The former state senator, Joe Morrissey, was arrested and charged in 2014 for having a sexual relationship with his 17 year old law firm receptionist.
At the time of his arrest, Morrissey was 57 years old. He was sentenced to 12 months in jail for engaging in sex acts with a 17 year old.
Northam pardoned the child molester for his misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Soon after the receptionist, whose name was Myrna Pride, turned 18, Morrissey married her. They now have four children.
The now Myrna Morrissey actually submitted an affidavit in December 2021 supporting her husband’s (and abuser’s) application for a pardon, including with the affidavit pictures of him with their smiling children.
“Joe and I entered into a relationship which was entirely consensual and at no time did Joe ever manipulate, coerce or in anyway intimidate me into engaging in a relationship,” she claimed in the affidavit.
Apparently, her letter worked.
The former state senator said that he learned of the pardon on January 13th.
“To say that I was extremely pleased with what the governor did would be, perhaps for me, the understatement of the 2022 General Assembly session,” Morrissey said.
“Most importantly, my wife is grateful,” he continued, adding that his children will be grateful someday for the governor’s action.
Tariq Nasheed pointed out some of the more disturbing details of Morrissey’s actions in a post on Twitter, writing: “White Convicted Pedo State Senator Joe Morrissey, who was molesting an underaged Black girl, and having her dress up like a plantation 🛌🏿🔧, was just given a pardon for his crimes by Gov. Northam.. Wait until #metoo finds out..They are going to be all over this, right?”

Donald Trump Jr. also spoke out about the pardon on Twitter, writing: “’I’m shocked a Democrat Governor would pardon a pedophile as their final act in office’… said no one ever. It seems it’s basically the party platform at this point. WTF!?!”
