Republican governors are rallying together to oppose President Biden’s handling of the border crisis. Twenty Republican governors have co-authored a letter to the White House detailing their complaints regarding the Administration response to the flood of illegal immigrants attempting to enter the United States through the southern border. Biden has struggled to deal with the massive surge in border crossings which has begun in recent months.
Governors attack Biden immigration policy
The governors, including Kristi Noem of South Dakota, Brian Kemp of Georgia, and Greg Abbott of Texas have signed the letter, which calls on Biden to take immediate action on the southern border.
Also signing is Governor Henry McMaster of South Carolina, who has previously defied the Biden Administration in their attempts to relocated unaccompanied minors from the border to his state.
Now other governors are joining McMaster in refusing to house illegal immigrants in their states as the Biden Administration has ordered through the Department of Health and Human Services.
The states have argued that they are already struggling with current facilities to care for minors who rely on state assistance, a problem which has been exacerbated by Covid.
Now the Biden Administration hopes to relocate potentially huge numbers of migrant children to these states, an arrangement which will spread resources even more thin and deprive American children who currently rely on them.
The governors are also concerned with the activity of cartels at the border and the potential for the smuggling of both drugs and people across the border and into their states.
No end in sight at the border
The Biden Administration has done very little to discourage vast numbers of migrants from attempting to cross the southern border in recent months.
Biden and his promises to liberalize the situation at the border has caused a massive spike in numbers as Democrats publicly disavow the approach of the Trump Administration.
Migrants from Central and South America are being lured by the perception that under Biden they will be effectively able to enter the United States without consequences and receive help from the United States government.
Mexico, which the migrants are passing through on their way to the United States, has made similar pleas to the Biden Administration, pointing out that they also lack the resources to control the flood of people.
The human tide pouring across the border has no end in sight unless Biden is willing to publicly inform migrants that they will not be allowed to cross into the United States illegally, something which he has thus far refused to consider.
Criticism from Republican governors and Mexico will intensify the headache for the Biden Administration, which will face renewed attacks from other Democrats if any crackdown on illegal immigrants is proposed by the White House.
