A prominent St. Louis attorney has been found dead, according to a statement from his firm. On Monday at around 4:30 p.m., police and emergency workers were called to the Gateway Tower building for reports of a body being discovered.
Attorney Charles “Ed” Brown was well-known as half of the St. Louis legal team Brown and Brown.
Brown appeared with his brother on multiple billboards around the city, as well as on broadcast commercials. He was often most recognized for his eye patch, which covered an injury he received as a child.
Ed Brown and his brother Dan Brown filmed late-night infomercials in which they talked about their love for St. Louis.
According to the Attorneys’ website, Ed Brown was a principal partner at Brown and Brown after forming the firm in 1993, which specialized in personal injury and criminal defense law. The website also says that Ed enjoyed sports, and was fluent in Russian.
St. Louis police officer Michelle Woodling said homicide detectives went to the scene, however, “since there were no suspicious circumstances noted at this time, the investigation is being handled by district detectives.”
Brown’s death is being investigated as a suicide. According to Police Sgt. Keith Barrett, Brown jumped to his death from an 11th floor balcony, landing on a roof which is accessible from the third floor of the building.
