Despite the Republican Party having multiple candidates vying for the presidential nomination, its easy to see that none of them have been able to catch up to former President Donald Trump. And with the latest GOP debate arguably being one of the most chaotic, California Governor Gavin Newsom summed it up as “XFL” and “JV” in comparison to Trump’s campaign.

President Trump opted out of Wednesday night’s debate, instead choosing to deliver a speech before auto workers currently on strike in Michigan.

This savvy strategic move left aides to President Joe Biden bewildered as the leading Republican looks past those on last night’s stage and toward the general election.

Not to mention how this move speaks volumes about how President Trump plans to approach the general election race past those on last night’s stage.

It also highlighted his sky-high 60 percent approval rating among GOP voters despite not participating in the debate himself.

Asked for his reaction, Governor Newsom didn’t hold back with his assessment that Trump will come out of this latest event as “the dominant force”.

He went on to say that it seemed more like a Vice Presidential debate than a primary election and those on stage were getting lapped by Donald Trump.

He asked rhetorically whether other candidates realize they have essentially no chance to change the contours of the primary before Iowa and New Hampshire get underway.

With a gleaming smile he concluded that if they don’t distinguish themselves soon then it would be “wasting everybody’s time”.

Furthermore, he noted he will debate Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Fox News this November which could provide one of President Trump’s rivals with an opportunity to elevate himself further into contention.

Although he had previously considered entering the Democratic primary against President Biden, he ultimately decided against it saying his party needs to “get behind” Biden who trails behind current polls with President Trump leading ahead of him in many cases.
