Watching Trump’s rally, the assassination attempt, and the performance of the Secret Service, we all knew the Director, Kimberly Cheatle, was going to have some hard questions asked.
Congress did not disappoint, but some members took it just a bit further.
Unlike Cheatle, they actually went to the site to investigate, including Cheatle’s lame excuse about the roof’s slope.
If I Can Do It
One of the most telling parts of Cheatle’s testimony to me was that she had not visited the site.
It even took her a couple of days to talk to the agents that were assigned to Trump that day.
One could easily draw the conclusion that she simply did not care.
Some Republicans really zeroed in on Cheatle’s excuse not to have a sniper on the roof where the shooter set up.
Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-GA) toured the site.
Now, Gimenez is 70 years old, and he got up on that roof with no problem…
It was so bad, even Democrats were going after her during the hearing.
For example, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) stated, “I don’t want to add to the director’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, but I will be joining the chairman in calling for the resignation of the director just because I think that this relationship is irretrievable at this point.
“And I think that the director has lost the confidence of Congress at a very urgent and tender moment in the history of the country. And we need to very quickly move beyond this.”
As you know by now, Cheatle did eventually resign, but only after she was completely embarrassed on the Hill.
I am sure she thought Democrats would come to her rescue, but the protection was so badly carried out, even Democrats did not want to get in front of the fan this time.
I just hope true justice is served and that Cheatle eventually is brought up on charges for the death of Corey Comperatore and the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.
