Democrats think they can run an unpopular California progressive candidate by repackaging her. Kamala now will not care about the issues she cared about. Her original campaign was about child sacrifice and identity politics. The problem is old clips of her are out there and easily referenced. Republican Dave McCormick put a montage together showing every crazy idea she’s had starting with open borders.
Kamala supported
The things she supported included the Green New Deal, federal confiscation of firearms, a ban on a couple types of drilling, single-payer health insurance, voting rights for felons and even an authoritarian climate policy that would discourage eating red meat. Republican strategists like Brad Todd in Pennsylvania are amazed at the opportunity.
Todd spoke about it. “The archive is deep. We will run out of time before we run out of video clips of Kamala Harris saying wacky California liberal things. I’m just not sure that the rest of this campaign includes much besides that.”
The Democrat strategy is curiously about contempt for their voters. First thing is Kamala will come out and say she no longer holds these positions.
She changed her mind
Kamala will say she no longer believes in the things Democrats hold dear. She won’t support open borders, the gun buy-back program or single-payer health insurance.
She now has “deep ties to law enforcement”. Those felons will no longer voting rights.
The climate worshippers will be abandoned. She might now believe in fracking.
Kamala might be more pragmatic
Matt Bennett of the centrist Democratic think tank Third Way maintains she’s not changing her principles, just the direction the solution needs to take.
“There’s a tremendous difference in changing one’s policy ideas and changing one’s principles. She has not changed her principles. She still thinks climate change is an existential threat — she just doesn’t think the Green New Deal is the way to address it.”
The Vice President is now appearing to back away from everything she believed in. The key word being “appearing”.
That’s one of two pieces to the strategy. The other is appealing to abortion lovers and tearing others’ identities down. Kamala likes abortion to the point of where she thinks it’s a civil right that should be federally protected. Above all else, her campaign thinks people will jump simply to vote for a woman of color.
