The GOP and Trump are “1,000%” behind each other after meeting with the National Republican Senatorial Committee on Thursday. He delivered remarks with the NRSC after meeting earlier with Republican Senators. The political map favors them across the board. Currently, Democrats and independents who caucus with them have just a one seat lead so the GOP only need to gain one seat.
Trump is needed
He said we need to be focused on one goal.
“This is an outstanding group of people. I’m with them 1,000 percent; they’re with me 1,000 percent. We agree just about on everything, and if there isn’t, we work it out. And…I’ve had a really great relationship with just about everybody here, with everybody here, just about all of the senators. And if it wasn’t fantastic, it gets worked out, and we have one thing in mind, and that’s making our country great.”
He told the senators, “You’re all either elected, or you’re going to be elected again and reelected.” A selection of those in attendance included Conference chair John Barrasso (R-WY), NRSC chairman Steve Daines (R-MT), and Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO), J.D. Vance (R-OH), Roger Marshall (R-KY), Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA).
That which is realistic for Republicans includes nine seats currently occupied by Democrats. The same can’t be said in the reverse. The only two Republican seats available to Democrats are long shots.
The Trump push
The seats Republicans have a shot at include West Virginia, Montana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Nevada. There was a media circus surrounding the area where Trump was expected for his meeting at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, DC.
Some protesters were on hand as well but not a lot. Most were middle aged with one person wearing a bear costume.
Matt Gaetz of Florida described the meeting as a “pep rally” so spirits were high. Trump congratulated Nancy Mace for her primary win and teased about tensions between Marjorie Taylor-Greene and the speaker.
Trump complimented Greene
Along with teasing comes compliments. The meeting took place after the Congressional Baseball game in which Republicans beat Democrats 31 -11.
The team manager Roger Williams gifted Trump a ball and bat from the game. The president’s 78th birthday is Friday so Happy Birthday was sung.
Trump spoke about more serious topics too, such as exceptions for abortion and protecting women’s sports. Elise Stefanik said Republicans
“are ready to get to work on behalf of the American people to secure the border, unleash American energy independence, bring back peace through strength, stand up for election integrity, and defeat this illegal weaponization of the justice system. It was a unifying event, and I am grateful to the president for answering questions from our colleagues today.”
