The new mayor of Chicago has them missing the old one. Brandon Johnson has a novel approach to the city’s car theft problem. Don’t blame the criminals, they were practically dared to do it. He’s suing the manufacturers for making their models too easy to steal. Rumors say he’s also got his lawyers looking into the possibility of suing China for letting TikTok make step-by-step How to Steal a Kia directions so easy to obtain. They’re just as easily available on YouTube.
Chicago gets radical
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson “has finally figured out who is behind the city’s crime problem.” When he did, he came up with a radical solution. “No, it’s not the criminals who are committing the crimes. It’s your car manufacturer,” Washington Examiner snipes.
It turns out that Kia and Hyundai models “are being disproportionately stolen compared to other cars.” All it takes, they say, is a USB cable and a death wish.
People don’t take kindly to having young punks joyriding in their ride. Everyone in Chicago is armed and those with Kias and Hyundais all went out and bought tracking chips.
It would be a whole lot more effective to buy “The Club” but those are too much work. Besides, they aren’t nearly as much fun as chasing down a car thief with GPS and smoking them for the offense.
Thanks to TikTok, the mayor’s office complains, “Kia and Hyundai vehicles are rather easy to steal.” The companies shelled out $200 million in a settlement to affected drivers and the mayor of Chicago smelled a way to boost his waning treasury.
New York City and Baltimore are trying to cash in with the same racket. It’s a simple case of negligence, the lawyers argue.

Basic auto-theft prevention
“The impact of car theft on Chicago residents can be deeply destabilizing, particularly for low- to middle-income workers who have fewer options for getting to work and taking care of their families.” Those are the ones who didn’t even bother to get the chips.
“The failure of Kia and Hyundai to install basic auto-theft prevention technology in these models is sheer negligence, and as a result, a citywide and nationwide crime spree around automobile theft has been unfolding right before our eyes.” Failure to arrest or prosecute the thieves has absolutely nothing to do with it.
The reason “Let’s Go” Johnson is cracking down on car manufacturers is so he doesn’t have to do anything about armed robbery or murder. So far this year there have been 391 killings on the streets of Chicago.

Liberal cities are experimenting with anarchy. That means the current situation is “gangs of roving criminals vandalizing and robbing businesses and assaulting people.” He criticizes anyone who brings that up as “just being silly.”
You can’t go around “demonizing” adolescent criminals with words like “mob” or “riot” when it’s really nothing but “large gatherings.” His grand “safety plan” for Memorial Day weekend was so effective that only 57 people were shot.
As the Examiner observes, “he has finally found someone to blame for crime but it is not his own weakness or the criminals themselves who commit these crimes knowing that Chicago is run by pro-criminal politicians. No, Johnson has decided to blame car manufacturers because they clearly must be the real problem.“
