New York City Mayor Eric Adams decided to unofficially “deputize” local citizens to track their own vehicle when it gets stolen. Since the invading illegal aliens are taking all the cash away from cops, it’s much cheaper and easier to just mail out a bunch of tracking devices.

Services which are normally performed by police are being “privatized” by New York City Mayor Eric Adams. He had to prioritize his budget away from fighting crime and dedicate it to housing and supporting migrants.
There are way too many cars being stolen in his city, especially since makers like Kia engineer their ignitions so they can be hacked by 12 year old’s equipped with nothing more sophisticated than a standard a USB cable. Rather then waste scarce officer hours on tracking missing vehicles, the upset owners can do it themselves. Please don’t shoot the thief, they request, leave that to professionals.
On Sunday, April 30, Mayor Adams announced that “New York City will give out free Apple AirTags to residents as part of an effort to pump the brakes on rampant car thefts.”

He’s as floored by the gizmos as George Bush Sr. was, when he dropped into a grocery store and saw a laser scanner for the first time. That was after they had been in common use for about a decade. Hizzoner declares GPS tracking devices a “really amazing piece of ingenuity.”
Best of all, someone was gracious enough to foot the bill. According to Mayor Adams, “500 of the gadgets donated by a local nonprofit will be available at the NYPD’s 47th precinct in The Bronx.” They were picked for the test market because the 47th “has been hit particularly hard by the carjacking scourge.” It’s a disturbing trend.
“The aggravated number of grand larceny autos continues to drive up crime in our city.” While GTA is spiking, “other major crimes — such as shootings, homicides and robberies and larcenies — have been on the downturn.”
All it takes is a tag
“This simple device,” Adams enthusiastically declares, “this simple AirTag, hidden in a car location that a person is not aware of, is an excellent tracking device. It’s easy to monitor. You can see in real-time where the vehicle is located.”
Please don’t attempt to recover the vehicle on your own. They’ll try to get it back without anyone getting killed. The prosecutor will then try to make sure nobody goes to jail. If you kill the car thief, they warn, even prosecutors as progressive as Alvin Bragg will put you in jail for that.
After Mayor Adams gave his big speech, the NYPD posted a video which “demonstrated how the devices would help cops track a stolen vehicle.”

If you don’t want to wait for the city to send you a free device, they “encouraged motorists to go out and buy the AirTag units on their own.” You can thank the Association for Better New York for the first 500 units.
Cops will be handing the tags out in the Bronx and see how it goes. “We’re going to be handing them out in this precinct, which is really spiking in grand larceny autos,” Adams announced. City officials confirm that “the NYPD’s Crime Prevention Unit within the Community Affairs Bureau was working on a plan for equitable distribution of the devices.”
The city, Adams points out, “will also be fundraising to purchase more gadgets similar to the ones donated by ABNY.” Hopefully, the police add, “we recover your car undamaged, we take a bad guy off the streets, and you get a car back to conduct your business and it doesn’t impose on your life.”
