As a conservative, Thomas Sowell has been known for decades as an economist, social theorist and philosopher. He had a nationally syndicated column, has written dozens of books and amazed audiences with his common sense approach. Ten years ago, Fox News was a lot different. Bill O’Reilly was still on the air. Tucker Carlson was able to interview Sowell about multiculturalism.
Sowell saw it coming
It’s destroying our culture and education. Get to the kids. The phrase now is “diversity, equity and inclusion”. The Biden administration has multiplied it.
Sowell began,
“[Multiculturalism] starts from a false premise… that all cultures are equal in some undefinable sense which has never been the case. Some cultures are better at some things, worse at other things… but what you never see is what they see as a norm, namely all groups performing pretty much the same in all kinds of fields across the world. You can go through centuries of history without finding a single example of that.”
Sowell calls it a case system
Certain communities are held back simply by skin color rather than all people being held to the same higher standard. In practice, one example could be black students not being taught proper English. Liberals have lower expectations for blacks.
“When the multiculturalists say, for example, that the school should not try to make black students speak standard English, the difference between speaking standard English and not speaking standard English can be huge in terms of your job, your careers and all sorts of other things.”
Neither Sowell nor Tucker saw the degree
In which this would degrade to the point of where the president would endorse and encourage this. The current administration promotes “equitable education.” Equality can supposedly only be achieved when different groups are held to different standards.
The President’s Build Back Better plan was built on the premise that minority communities were impacted disproportionately by COVID. Now we have to spend more tax dollars to create unique educational opportunities.
“Consistent with the President’s Executive Order, the Administration is committed to advancing educational equity for every child — so that schools and students not only recover from the pandemic, but Build Back Better. Schools play vital roles in bringing communities together. But, too many of the nation’s schools are still largely segregated by race and class, mirroring their communities. The discretionary request includes $100 million for a new voluntary grant program to help communities develop and implement strategies to build more diverse student bodies. Applicants would have flexibility to develop and implement school diversity plans that reflect their individual needs and circumstances, and improve educational opportunities and outcomes for students.”
But no amount of money will fix this. The problem is all people aren’t held to the same standard.
