Antony Blinken may be in over his head but at least he’s out there pretending to do what the taxpayers hired him for. That’s more than can be said for Pete Buttigieg and Alejandro Mayorkas, just to name a couple. Blinky managed to score ten whole minutes with his Russian counterpart at an international conference and claims he made the best of them. He announced to the folks back home that he narrowed his presentation to three points and just kept talking. “Oh really,” Russia says, with a chuckle.

Blinken claims progress

Minister of State Antony Blinken had a chance to chat with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in India on Thursday. They were both in New Delhi for a G-20 related security conference “with top Indo-Pacific allies India, Australia and Japan.” They call that partnership “the Quad.

Blinky managed to surprise Lavrov by jumping out from behind some strategically placed statuary. Then, he basically grabbed the Russian by the hand, looked him in the eye and started babbling.

After making sure the palace propaganda corps got a few good photos of them together, Blinken took to social media. He bragged extensively about how he “pressed Lavrov on three points.

First and foremost, he wants someone to talk some sense into Vlad and get him back into nuclear arms limitation talks, instead of planning to make more and use some. The way Blinky put it, he begged Lavrov to “reverse President Vladimir Putin’s decision to suspend participation in the New START pact.

While he had his attention and before Lavrov’s bodyguards could pry him loose, Blinken claims he lobbied for the release of Paul Whelan, “a former US Marine who has been detained in Russia since 2018.” We traded a high powered arms dealer and all we got back was a lesbian basketball player who smuggled CBD oil in her suitcase.

Whelan is still stuck in the gulag. Since he still had his quarry firmly pinned down, he quickly “reaffirmed to Lavrov that Washington will back Ukraine as long as it takes.

That’s not what Russia says

According to Firstpost, Blinken “lied” about his conversation with Lavrov. “Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov has rubbished” claims that the “two diplomats discussed the release of a U.S. marine sentenced to jail in Moscow as announced by the Americans.

They quote Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova for a statement she gave on Friday.

Zakharova “debunked” what Blinken had to say as “lies” and “an example of astounding behavior” by the Biden regime.

While acknowledging the brief encounter, Zakharova insists “Moscow’s top diplomat confided” to her that “the case never came up in the short encounter.” Blinky didn’t say a word about Whelan and if he thinks he got shafted on the prisoner swap deal, tough luck.

Blinken did ask for “contact” with Lavrov at the upcoming second session of G20 foreign ministers meet. “However, there were no talks or full-fledged meeting between the two diplomats.

Blinky had a similar encounter with Chinese minister Wang Yi in Munich. When they got done with their little encounter, Wang took out a six-page op-ed in the Chinese controlled state press to call Blinky and Joe Biden big bullies who should mind their own business or face nuclear consequences.
