Trey Gowdy Admits He Made a Mistake With FBI

Former South Carolina lawmaker Trey Gowdy admits that he made a huge mistake by “relying on the word” of FBI and DOJ agents about the Russia probe. He expected our law enforcement officials to be honest and truthful. Instead they’re nothing but a pack of liars.

Believing the FBI was a big mistake

Conservative Trey Gowdy promises not to make the same error in the future. He took so much heat from fellow Republicans he feels like he got burned. He erroneously assumed that he could take the word of federal officials in charge of enforcing the law. Apparently, to the Department of Justice, anyone with a badge can lie as much as they want.

On Monday, Gowdy had to justify comments he made back in 2018, defending the Federal Bureau of Instigation’s role in the Russia collusion debacle. This week, he told Tucker Carlson that “his mistake at the time was ‘relying on the word of the FBI and the DOJ.'”

Gowdy could hardly believe how naive he was two years ago when Carlson played a clip. “I am more convinced the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got, and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump.” He blew that one, he admits. “I remember watching that and thinking, boy, I hope he is right.”

Trump really was the target

Gowdy was quick to relate that he’s “made a lot of mistakes in life.” Every time he relies “on briefings and not insisting on the documents,” it bites him in the butt. He went over to the Justice Department one day and “sat there for four hours.” What he saw made him cringe, knowing he would be soon eating a lot of crow.

There in front of him in black and white were the documents proving the FBI lied. Trump really was the target. “They’d been telling us all along, ‘Trump’s not the target, the campaign’s not the target,’ so, yes, my mistake was relying on the word of the FBI and the DOJ and not insisting on the documents.”

All in all, Gowdy notes, “it took me about three weeks to correct that mistake.” Matt Gaetz is upset that they didn’t know the truth sooner. Not only did he slam Gowdy for his 2018 remarks, he pointed out that Gowdy stonewalled and attempt to “subpoena Democrats back in 2017 when he had the power to defend Gen. Michael Flynn.” According to Gaetz, when Gowdy had control, they “could have run this to the ground in 2017.” Gowdy’s foot dragging meant they “didn’t send out one single subpoena, not one, and that’s a failure of our Republican leadership.”

    1. No, not dumb. He, like many of us for years, have trusted the DOJ and FBI to be above politics and staunch advocates of “Truth, Justice, and The American Way”. A lot of heads need to roll, and even then how will we ever be able to trust the government again? The lying, deceit, corruption and misuse of public office extends back at least 60 years if not more. Now it is in your face obvious.

  1. The President needs to replace the worthless FBI Director, Chris Wray and Trey Gowdy would be an excellent candidate for the new Director. Wray still has not cleaned house at the FBI and many of the Deep State embedded employees continue to corrupt the agency. If the President is serious about draining the swamp, the FBI would be a good place to start and Gowdy is the man with the backbone to do it.

  2. I CAN UNDER STAND HOW FINDING OUT ABOUT THE LIARS AND FRAUD THAT WAS PULLED ON HIM, WHEN HE THOUGH T HE COULD TRUST THOSE PEOPLE. HE WAS SO TRUSTING , IT MUST OF LIKE GETTING HIT IN THE GUT THAT THEY LIED. WELL RIGHT NOW WE NEED HIM BACK as his profession as a prosecutor——– DON’T YOU AGREE. WE HAVE ALL MADE MISTAKES AND THATS IN THE PAST NOW.!!

  3. I too trusted Trey, an insider. With all his inside knowledge and experience, he was duped or he was part of the Deep State. History will tell, I question if he was that naive.

  4. Gowdy is not dumb. Stonewalling protecting FBI/DOJ on the basis of denials by the suspects is beyond dumb. I liked Gowdy once, I think there is more to his actions in 2017/18 than lack of brains. Matt Gaetz knows the truth. He and others tried repeatedly to get Gowdy to read the documents. To no avail. IMO corruption more likely than sheer stupidity.

  5. Trey Gowdy is also known within the inner circles as ‘All Blow and No Go Trey.’ He either was so naive or was played a fool by the liars within the FBI who tried to cover-up for Obama’s Administration.

  6. We the People have also been making the same mistakes about our own government for quite a few decades: We’ve lost sight that primary concern about government is to “Trust but Verify.” The People & Trey Gowdy trusted, but did not verify.
Over the past 4 years, President Trump has been striving to turn this around & bring the Due Process of law back into Law Enforcement & has, for the most part succeeded, but still has quite a bit of ground to cover. As The People begin to catch on, we see a majority of people have been turning around, to seek verification. Trey Gowdy has also made that turnabout. There is a majority, still growing larger, that have done their own research & we can see this in how differently the people are looking at politicians recently; Radical politicians are being held accountable for their crimes now because it’s this self-same radicalization of politics has brought our nation to the brink of destruction & it can no longer be ignored.

    Trust, But Verify!
Ladies & Gentlemen! Rev up your (search) engines! The War FOR information has begun!

  7. I had a lot of hope for Trey Gowdy. I thought he was one of the good guys, at least one of the smarter ones but for him not to look at the underlying documents in the BIGGEST scandal is more than naive, seems deliberate. It only took him 4 hours to look them over, he didn’t have 4 hours when the country and the administration is going through hell, not to mention tax payers money! “Come on, man!” Do your job, I once thought Elizabeth Warren (before she went loony) would be a good candidate for President, and I thought the same thing about Trey. Hopefully he doesn’t go loony and has a position in the Tim Scott 2024 administration.
