Donald Trump wants his papers back.
Reports broke this weekend that the FBI may have screwed up with some of the documents taken.
It would appear that several boxes contained privileged attorney-client papers.
Give Them Back!
Trump unloaded on Truth Social, calling out the FBI for taking the papers.
He stated, “Oh great! It has just been learned that the FBI, in its now famous raid of Mar-a-Lago, took boxes of privileged ‘attorney-client’ material, and also ‘executive’ privileged material, which they knowingly should not have taken.
“By copy of this TRUTH, I respectfully request that these documents be immediately returned to the location from which they were taken. Thank you!”
There is also the question of whether any of the documents that were at Trump’s home being classified.
His attorneys had already stated that all documents in the home had been declassified per a standing order when Trump was in office.
As every president does, Trump would take documents out of the White House over the weekends.
The order was that all documents removed were deemed declassified.
It may sound a bit bizarre, but presidents have blanket authority on this front, and declassifying documents in this manner is not as uncommon as you would think.
I have also seen reports in recent days from officials from other administrations regarding staffers being given top-secret clearance on the spot simply because it benefitted the president at that moment.
Something tells me the waters are just starting to get muddied up on this front.
