Apparently a lead firefighter reported that his crew ‘felt their lips burning’ while at the site, and there had been white dust floating in the air.

In order to put out the blazing fire, 15 total firefighters and seven engines had been deployed to the crash site.

Reuters spoke with an official at Kyiv cargo operator Meridian, who stated, “Of course they didn’t survive this.”

Numerous drone images have been captured, displaying the various debris from the aircraft strewn about in fields.

Greek authorities have yet to provide any additional information on the cargo of the plane.

According to State TV ERT, the signal of the aircraft had been lost shortly after the pilot made a request for an emergency landing from Greek aviation authorities, citing an engine issue.

Authorities gave the pilot permission to land at either the Thessaloniki or Kavala airports, which he opted for the later, however ended up crashing about 25 miles west of the airport, according to Greece’s Civil Aviation authority.

Video footage captured showed the aircraft already in flames in the air as it quickly descended to the ground in an explosion.

Earlier reports of the plane heading to Jordan have been denied by a senior source at Jordan’s civil aviation regulatory commission (CARC). Instead, the itinerary had included a stop in Jordan’s Queen Alia international airport at 9:30 pm to re-fuel, as reported by state news agency Petra.

A wide parameter around the crash site has been blocked off and any nearby residents have been asked to keep their windows and doors shut. Additionally, nearby roads have been closed off.

Giorgos Archontopoulos, a nearby local man, shared with the state broadcaster ERT TV that he believed something to be wrong once he had heard the engine of the aircraft.

He said, “At 10.45pm I was surprised by the sound of the engine of the aircraft I went outside and saw the engine on fire.”

A fire brigade official shared that, “We are treating the cargo as dangerous material,” as the exact contents of the plane are still unclear.
