It would appear that the practice of refusing to debate your opponent when leading is now officially a thing.
In Nevada, the incumbent Democrat, who has a lead against a Trump-backed Senate candidate, has withdrawn from the debate.
This could be a disaster for Sam Brown, as he really needed this debate to make up the five or so points he is down.
Backing Out
Remember when now Governor Katie Hobbs of Arizona refused to debate Kari Lake?
How about when John Fetterman refused to debate but finally gave Dr. Oz his chance, yet he still won the race?
Donald Trump did the same thing, acting like an incumbent, citing previous sitting presidents who refused to debate, only Trump was not in office at the time.
I called them all out, as I believe everyone needs to earn their spot, which is why I am now calling out Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV).
Rosen had sent a list of demands for her debate requirements, such as no live audience and a live debate.
The local station was working on accommodating her, but then she changed her mind.
Rosen’s office issued a statement: “After reviewing invitations and details from different potential hosts, we’ve decided to go in a different direction.”
This is a problem for Brown, who has been endorsed by Trump, but he is currently trailing by five points in the latest polling.
He has never been closer than two points, so the debate would have given him a really good opportunity to expose Rosen’s record, but that will clearly not happen now.
I am just a bit concerned that she is leading because Nevada is one of the states that Donald Trump needs to win if he is going to take this election in November.
With Kamala’s late entrance, we honestly will not get a true feel for polling until about a month after the DNC and things calm down.
So, while we will report on it, expect the polling to be all over the place, then settle down around the middle of September after Harris’ newness wears off and the convention bump is over.
