Liz Cheney DEFEATED

Another step has been done. Cheney is one of ten Republicans that voted to impeach President Trump and since many people love Trump, she’s been shown the door. She’s the vice chair of the committee investigating the January 6 incident. Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman triumphed over Cheney in a landslide in the Wyoming GOP primary. When the race was called, Hageman lead with 58.54% of the vote.

Cheney is out

In 2020 President Trump won a huge 70% of the vote in Wyoming. In a poll done by the University of Wyoming published Thursday Cheney trailed Hageman by almost 30 points.

Since taking office in 2017 she really doesn’t have much support from fellow Republicans. Cheney actually tried courting some Democrats for help but some such as Tulsi Gabbard were happy to see her evicted.

Cheney betrayed

Her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, actually called Trump a coward. He put together an ad that said,

“In our nation’s 246-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He is a coward. A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters. He lost his election and he lost big. I know it, he knows it and deep down I think most Republicans know it.”

Cheney stood next to her dad while casting her vote and said to CBS News,

Today, no matter what the outcome is, is certainly the beginning of a battle that is going to continue. We’re facing a moment where our democracy really is under attack and under threat. And those of us across the board, Republicans, Democrats, and independents who believe deeply in freedom and who care about the Constitution and the future of the country, have an obligation to put that above party.”

Trump broadcast the win

He wrote on Truth Social, “Congratulations to Harriet Hageman on her great and very decisive WIN in Wyoming. This is a wonderful result for America, and a complete rebuke of the Unselect Committee of political Hacks and Thugs. Liz Cheney should be ashamed of herself, the way she acted, and her spiteful, sanctimonious words and actions towards others. Now she can finally disappear into the depths of political oblivion where, I am sure, she will be much happier than she is right now. Thank you WYOMING!”

The New York Times praised Cheney’s “principled stand” against Trump along with Lisa Murkowski who also faced an uphill battle to remain on the ballot. Cheney compared herself to Lincoln in her concession speech.

“The great and original champion of our party Abraham Lincoln was defeated in elections for the Senate and the House before he won the most important election of all.” In the Democratic primary, Lynnette Gray Bull won. She’ll face Hageman in November.
