When Joe Biden made a visit to the state of Hawaii on Monday, he faced enormous backlash from local Hawaiians.
The President had traveled to Maui with the intention of comforting survivors of the devastating fires that have plagued the island, but instead his words were met with anger and resentment.
His comment that he “knows what it’s like to lose a home” when referring to his own experience with a small kitchen fire was seen as deeply insensitive and disrespectful given the magnitude of destruction in Hawaii.
Kristen Goodwin, formerly a teacher in Hawaiian schools, expressed her feelings about Joe Biden’s comments saying “There are no words in response to something like that.”
She further expressed disappointment at federal aid taking days before finally coming through for those affected by the fires.
Leslie Santos, who once held an influential role at a university, added her voice saying “I am offended” by Biden’s remarks.
These two women represent just some of the many voices speaking out against Joe Biden’s remarks during his visit.
Hawaiians made their displeasure known as soon as Joe Biden rolled through certain parts of Maui during his visit using one universal sign – flipping him off.
One person said “Thanks for nothing” while another yelled “F*ck you! F*ck you! F*ck you!”
It wasn’t only these two individuals expressing their sentiments either – there were reportedly many more protesters present holding signs reading ‘actions speak louder than words’ and ‘too late.’
It is clear from this incident that Joe Biden has missed his mark in attempting to comfort those affected by the Maui fires.
With such an inadequate response, it is not surprising that many Hawaiian locals have already decided they will not be voting for him again come election time.
Some are even going so far as to say they would vote for Trump instead!
