Some car wash workers got a shocking surprise recently. The detailing crew, giving cars the final once over, popped the hatch on a passenger car to find a bound, gagged and nearly naked “victim.” The video was posted last month on social media. It got pulled from Facebook for violating service terms but it’s still making the rounds.

A willing victim

The bound and gagged apparent victim, Chris Peacock, was totally convincing. Video shows “a car wash employee opening the trunk of a car as a nearly naked Peacock rolls out with a gag in his mouth and his wrists bound together.

As the astounded worker jumped back, the 32-year-old scampered away in his boxers “to the nearby road.” April first has come and gone but this story from East Yorkshire, England shows a good prank can be pulled anywhere, any time of the year.

A guy who works in the British version of Home Depot as a manager, 38-year-old Gary Stephenson, wanted to welcome the new neighborhood car wash business “in an unforgettable way.” He’d run his car through there to support the local economy and part of their routine gave him a devious idea.

He soon convinced his friend Chris to play victim in the “performance of a lifetime.” When he posted the 30-second clip, captioned “Just kidnapped my mate,” it got 1.1 million views before it was bounced.

Peacock told local news when they caught up with him later, “Gary managed to talk me into it. We bounced ideas off each other, and next thing I know I’m in the underpants at the car wash.

They stuffed him in back, all ready for his role as a victim, for the drive over. “On the way to the car I was thinking, ‘What the hell am I doing?‘ As soon as the boot opened, I thought, ‘It’s my time to shine.

All in good fun

Stephenson got out the car grinning and flashed “the car wash worker and his colleagues a smile to let them know it was all a prank.” Meanwhile Peacock, still bound and gagged, “stood by the roadside for 10 minutes.

Commuters didn’t seem to willing to help, because as he stood there, looking like a kidnap victim, “drivers mocked him.” Chris was more afraid he was going to get doused with car cleaner.

I didn’t know if he was going to spray me,” Peacock said of the employee’s reaction, “so I just ran, but then I found myself in the middle of the street for about 10 minutes.” That’s when he started having second thoughts.

“People were driving past laughing at me. I was freezing cold and thinking, ‘How did I end up in the situation?‘” He ended up as a victim after all, but chalks it up as a story to tell his kids.

Even the producers can’t get away from reruns and images. “I laugh every time I see it,” the good sport proclaimed. “It never gets old. It’s good to see people laughing about it.” Stephenson explained that he’d been through their car wash enough to know the routine. When he’d seen them opening the rear hatch for a thorough cleaning it gave him a devious flash of inspiration.

I thought it’d be funny if someone jumped out.” He didn’t want anyone to get in trouble or hurt though, especially his mock victim. “I was quite nervous about how it was going to go. I don’t know these lads, so I didn’t know how they were going to take it. They could have kicked off or rang the police.” One of the video comments notes, “love how the other one just [keeps] on cleaning the car.
