California State Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas threw five Republicans and a moderate Democrat out of their committees in retaliation for trying to do oversight on child sex trafficking. There really wasn’t a reason for this because Democrats hold a super majority in both the Assembly and the Senate. It doesn’t matter how Republicans vote, they’re overrun. The move was shocking even for California.
California furious with Republicans
Legislators targeted for removal include Alexandra Macedo, David Tangipa, Carl DeMaio, Bill Essayli and Joe Patterson. The moderate Democrat, Maggie Krell, that worked with these five legislators is also targeted.
Krell was stripped of her seat on the Assembly Higher Education Committee. She was trying to keep child sex trafficking down. DeMaio was removed from two budget committees.
Republicans trying to shine the light
Democrats don’t want their spending and money laundering exposed. DeMaio put out a statement,
“Assembly Democrats are punishing me for doing my job of scrutinizing the state budget – it is clear they don’t want me to expose their wasteful spending and their money laundering of tax dollars to fund political groups. They can remove me from the Budget Committee, but they can’t stop me from working with a team of outside investigators and researchers to shine a light on our state budget and exposing the waste and corruption happening in Sacramento.”
Republicans are in the minority here so they don’t have many rights. That explains why Nancy Pelosi thought it was ok to exclude the other side from the January 6 Committee. She does it at home, it should also happen in Washington.
Essayli tried to address this
Last year but it was voted down. Punishment for attempting this was to strip him last year of his seat on the Judiciary Committee. Democrats wanted to override parental rights regarding children who want to change their gender in school.
Essayli is one of the defiant Republicans and declared,
“Being punished by Democrat tyrants in Sacramento is an indication Republicans are finally doing the right thing. They have been accustomed to a controlled opposition party that goes along to get along. Those days are over. Thanks to President Trump we have a new breed of conservatives who are ready to speak up, fight back, and win elections. They can take our committees, they can kill our bills, but we will never stop fighting for a better California.”
