“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin was furious. In order to keep the show out of the court house the legal team forced her to read a notice after she tried to smear Matt Gaetz over charges of sexually abusing children. She had gone way too far. Gaetz has denied all allegations and has never been charged. Hostin is actually a former federal prosecutor. She repeated the claims minus the disclaimer.
Hostin could have been in trouble
The Justice Department does have a sex crime unit. She was amazed Gaetz could be nominated at all. “Within the Department of Justice, you know, you have the sex crimes unit, which is what I was a part of. Child sex crimes and child trafficking. How could you nominate someone with allegations of child trafficking or trafficking across state lines and having sex with a 17-year-old?”
The relationship was halted once Gaetz learned she was only 17. Hostin read over the air. “Matt Gaetz has long denied all allegations, calling the claims, quote, ‘invented,’ and saying in a statement to ABC News that ‘this false smear following a three-year criminal investigation should be viewed with great skepticism. The DOJ investigation was closed with no charges being brought.”
Gaetz has enemies
On both sides of the aisle. Even though the accusations aren’t substantiated that hasn’t stopped either side from attacking his nomination.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg commented, “I’m saddened by it because all of those women who will have to get some defense of what’s happened to them, that’s who they’re going to, and this is someone who will just say, ‘It’s not a big deal.’ All of those little kids who, you know, get abused, they got no recourse now because this is what’s in charge.”
Hostin called him guilty
This was too far even for “The View”. What’s surprising is that she should have known better as a federal prosecutor.
Gaetz’s nomination has gone off like a bomb in Washington. Trump chose him because he knows his strengths, his weaknesses and his willingness to fight against the Washington, DC power structure. Garland is a rat. In comparison, Gaetz is a combination of F. Lee Bailey and Atticus Finch, flaws and all.
