Democrats hysterically implied Trump could come after them due to the Supreme Court ruling on immunity. The Court held at 6-3 that the President has immunity for official acts but not unofficial ones. The courts would have to adjudicate the matter but the right exists for pre-trial challenges as to what constitutes official or unofficial. Some on the left hoped Biden would eliminate Trump with this.
Democrats terrified of Trump
Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote the dissent that sounds like it came out of the Biden-Harris campaign.
“The Court effectively creates a law-free zone around the President, upsetting the status quo that has existed since the Founding. This new official-acts immunity now “lies about like a loaded weapon” for any President that wishes to place his own interests, his own political survival, or his own financial gain, above the interests of the Nation. … The President of the United States is the most powerful person in the country, and possibly the world. When he uses his official powers in any way, under the majority’s reasoning, he now will be insulated from criminal prosecution.”
Democrats assume Trump thinks like they do. The dissent continued,
“Orders the Navy’s Seal Team 6 to assassinate a political rival? Immune. Organizes a military coup to hold onto power? Immune. Takes a bribe in exchange for a pardon? Immune. Immune, immune, immune. Let the President violate the law, let him exploit the trappings of his office for personal gain, let him use his official power for evil ends. Because if he knew that he may one day face liability for breaking the law, he might not be as bold and fearless as we would like him to be. That is the majority’s message today. Even if these nightmare scenarios never play out, and I pray they never do, the damage has been done. The relationship between the President and the people he serves has shifted irrevocably. In every use of official power, the President is now a king above the law.”
Biden could use this now
Some openly hoped Biden would use this to take out Trump, including using the word “assassinate”. These are the people who otherwise seem totally normal, who are controlling the education of our kids.
Conservatives pointed out Biden would have to delegate this to an assistant because he only has limited capacity. One joked the Biden would order the assassination of his political opponent but only between 10 am and 4 pm.
The ruling stated, “The President is not above the law. But under our system of separated powers, the President may not be prosecuted for exercising his core constitutional powers, and he is entitled to at least presumptive immunity from prosecution for his official acts.”
Democrats responded
Mazie Hirono, Democrat of HI, insisted,
“Make no mistake, with the guardrails gone, a reelected President Trump would label everything he did—no matter how partisan, extreme, or overtly criminal—’official,’ and based on this ruling, he’d get away with it. With the radical Supreme Court majority firmly behind him, Donald Trump continues marching toward becoming Dictator-in-Chief. The only thing that can stop him is we, the people.”
Ron Wyden of Oregon tweeted out,
“Today’s Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity adds to the sordid record of dangerous decisions by this court’s nakedly partisan majority that take a wrecking ball to the pillars of American democracy. The fact this awful ruling comes the same week we celebrate Americans joining together 248 years ago to declare independence from monarchy makes today an especially egregious stain on this judicial institution the founders designed to check the concentration of power in 1 person.”
At least one far left activist got noticed. Harry Sisson can expect a visit from the Secret Service for this: “According to the Supreme Court, Biden could now send in Seal Team 6 to take all of them out. He could send in the military to take out Trump. He has ‘immunity’ for official acts now!”
