The last batch of opinions from the Supreme Court have fallen on the conservative side, so there has been considerable pushback by the liberals on the court.
Some of the dissenting opinions have crossed the line, creating friction between conservative and liberal justices.
Chief Justice Roberts has had enough, dropping the hammer on the liberal justices on the bench.
Stop It!
Justices Sotomayor and Jackson have been at the front, going on the attack against conservative justices for opinions being rendered.
In some of their dissenting opinions, they are literally changing the facts to support their dissent.
An example would be Sotomayor’s dissent in the case against the graphic designer who did not want to create a same-sex marriage website.
Roberts warned all of the justices for misleading the public in opinions they oppose.
He stated, “It has become a disturbing feature of some recent opinions to criticize the decisions with which they disagree as going beyond the proper role of the judiciary.”
Roberts continued that the majority came to its decision by adhering to court precedent “old and new” that “requires that Congress speak clearly before a Department Secretary can unilaterally alter large sections of the American economy.”
He continued, “We have employed the traditional tools of judicial decision-making in doing so.
“Reasonable minds may disagree with our analysis — in fact, at least three do.
“We do not mistake this plainly heartfelt disagreement for disparagement.
“It is important that the public not be misled either.
“Any such misperception would be harmful to this institution and our country.”
This is not something we see very often, but I am glad to see that Roberts is trying to get the rhetoric dialed down on the court opinions.
