The very left New York Times reported this. Supposedly Democrat Joe Biden received 76% of the votes in 2020 and Democrat Mayor Eric Adams received 66% of the votes in 2021. That’s a lot of people that voted Democrat and now can’t live with it. People got what they voted for. It’s a big drop from at least seven years ago. The New York Times only sort of alluded to crime being a problem.
The New York Times reported
“Only 39 percent are content with the state of public education. Only 37 percent are happy with the level of public safety in their neighborhood, and only 34 percent are satisfied with their neighborhood’s cleanliness. Less than a third rate the city’s quality of life as excellent or good. Less than a quarter are content with the overall quality of government services.”
Quality of life is down. Respondents were asked, “How would you rate the quality of life in New York City overall?” Only 29.8% said excellent or good. That’s a big drop from 51.2% in 2017 and 50.9% in 2008.
People aren’t safe in New York
The subway is a huge problem. People were asked to “rate how safe or unsafe you feel … riding a subway during the day.” Only 49% felt safe on the subway during the day. That’s a huge drop from 82% in 2017 and 86% in 2008.
Riding the subway at night was predictably lower too. Less than a quarter, only 22 percent said they felt safe. In 2017 that percentage was 46, in 2008 it was 45 percent.
New York streets aren’t safe
Residents were asked to “rate how safe or unsafe you feel … walking alone on a street in your neighborhood at night.” The safe percentage was only 51, down from 70 percent in 2017 and 69 percent in 2008.
The pandemic is supposedly to blame. Andrew Rein, president of the Citizens Budget Commission said, “The drop is stark.” In 2017 the city was “seven years into a really robust recovery” and coming out of the pandemic in 2023. So COVID turns people into criminals.
The New York Times hinted at crime
“Of particular note were New Yorkers’ feelings about crime. There were more murders, robberies, felony assaults, burglaries and grand larcenies last year than in 2019, before the pandemic began, and the survey questions reflected a marked unease in how people felt riding the subway or walking the streets at night.”
Democrats voted for this. The vote was to end stop-and-frisk and politicians who wanted to offer the city as a sanctuary for illegals. The vote was also to release violet criminals. So now the city sucks. How did this happen?
