Surprise, surprise, the Department of Defense (DOD) has once again, failed another audit, making this it’s sixth straight failure. Despite supposed commitments from Pentagon leaders to make progress each year, obviously that didn’t happen in the slightest.
Only seven of 29 sub-agencies managed to receive a clean audit in 2023. This is absolutely disturbing and unacceptable; we must strive for better results going forward.
Auditing the DOD’s $3.8 trillion in assets and $4 trillion in liabilities is no small feat. Its assets are scattered across 50 states and 4,500 sites globally, making it an incredibly complex task that requires great care and precision. The Pentagon began formally auditing itself in 2018 after Congress passed a 1990 law requiring it do so – one of the last federal agencies to do so – but unfortunately, there has been little improvement since then despite many efforts by officials to improve the process.
REPORT: The Pentagon Just Failed its Sixth Straight Audit – Trillions of Dollars ‘Missing’
Same thing happened before 9/11;
Rumsfeld announced loss; 9/11 the documents destroyed; money laundering at its finest! Stealing from taxpayers https://t.co/hzPbkA5t3j pic.twitter.com/U27kA5kbRy— TRUTH NOW ⭐️⭐️⭐️???? (@sxdoc) November 17, 2023
Despite this disappointing outcome on the whole, there have been some areas where incremental progress has been made – even if it wasn’t reflected in the final determination. For example, Michael McCord – Pentagon comptroller – reported that they are moving closer to reconciling with the Treasury Department’s ledger on the Pentagon which could help minimize potential fraud opportunities down the line.
Robotic automation has also helped save up 600,000 man hours between just Navy and Air Force alone; this technology could be applied even more widely across other departments as well for greater efficiency gains overall.

McCord additionally noted that these improvements can be felt on a tangible level by our allies abroad; when Israel asked for material support during their conflict against Hamas terrorist group recently, DOD was able to provide what was needed quickly due to their improved accounting systems and capabilities tracking processes enabled by their ongoing audits over recent years.
McCord stated, “I want to highlight that while we still have much work to do, our work on the audit over the last few years has yielded significant benefits to the department. Our efforts to track, coordinate and quickly deliver security systems to our allies and partners in Ukraine and now Israel is closely related to the work across the DOD enterprise on readiness.”
