Ordinary citizens in the Democrat run city of Chicago are asking nicely for a truce with local gangsters and drug dealers. Shoot each other all you want when the sun goes down, and civilians promise to stay out of the way. They’re forced into the attempt because actually having police crack down on crime is totally out of the question.

Hold your fire, Chicago begs

A Chicago politician teamed up with a local community group to try a novel solution. Negotiation. Alderwoman Maria Hadden is politely asking “Chicagoans to hold off on shooting their firearms from the hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. when people are more at risk of getting caught in the middle of the crossfire.” The main idea is to protect local children.

No sliding while the sun is out,” the “People’s Ordinance” flier proclaims, along with “an image of a white picket fence dappled with colorful clouds and a plea: ‘Don’t shoot! I want to grow up.

As Tatiana Atkins, co-founder of Native Sons told reporters, “we have to start somewhere.” The mayor and city counsel aren’t going to do it. “Our goal is to approach our city’s gun violence problem strategically and not all at once.

Things didn’t become this way overnight, and change won’t happen overnight.” Chicago residents are “also asked not to associate with or glorify shooters, nor wear ski masks.

Nobody is trying to pass judgment or make waves with the street vending freelance pharmacists of Chicago. The problems arise when “those who live a certain lifestyle try to hang with ‘regular‘ class citizens, they put everyone at risk.” Critics are quick to point out the idea sounds a lot like a movie from 10 years ago.

The Purge” postulated making “all crime, including murder,” legal “for one night a year.” The problem is that all crime, including murder, is already legal 24/7. That’s what happens when liberal prosecutors refuse to prosecute.

Not a real ‘ordinance’

While it looks like one and is labeled as one, the group’s proposal isn’t an official city “ordinance.” Other than the support of Hadden, “no formal legislation has been put forward to ramp up penalties for individuals firing guns during a theoretical 12-hour armistice.” So what. Atkins was quick to reply that “social media and news coverage would carry her group’s movement to tamp down gun violence.

Shootings in Chicago are totally out of control. Since the police are powerless to stop it, the community is trying to come up with a solution on their own. The next step is forming vigilance committees, arming them up and taking justice into their own hands.

Reasonable members of the community had been hoping that Chicago would elect someone tougher on crime than Lori Lightfoot and what they got was Brandon Johnson. Citizens are starting to wish they had Lightfoot back. “The total number of crimes so far this year jumped 34% compared to the same time period in 2022, although shootings have declined by 10%.

There are still way too many of them. “Last weekend, 23 people were shot across the city, four fatally; the prior weekend, an 8-year-old girl was among seven killed by gunfire.” Arrests? Are you kidding?

Police in Chicago aren’t funded enough or supplied well enough for them to do much more than on the spot interventions. If they don’t catch someone in the middle of the act, they aren’t likely to ever bother to even look.

Instead, they hope a disgruntled acquaintance will turn in their suspect for the cash to feed their monkey or buy it a new pair of sneakers. It will be interesting to see how the creatures of the night respond to the proposed cease fire.
