A 62-year-old deplorable supporter of President Trump is looking at up to 10 years in prison after threatening to murder California Democrat Adam Schiff. He was a little too passionately creative with what he wrote on the representative’s website meeting request form. Authorities aren’t laughing.
Just a Deplorable defending ‘his president’
When the Federal Bureau of Instigation showed up at the front door of Robert M. Phelps of Torrington, Connecticut, last December 4, the deplorable Trump supporter admitted what he wrote on Rep. Adam Schiff’s website and insisted that he had the right to contact members of Congress and defend “his president.”
Agents politely informed him that filling out a “meeting request form” saying, “I want to kill you with my bare hands and smash your [profanity] face in” goes a little beyond protected free speech. Especially when his preferred day of the week for a meeting was “measure your coffin day.” He promised not to do it again and thought that was the end of it.
On March 13, Phelps was arrested and criminally charged with threatening to murder the congressman who led the recent impeachment trial. Many conservatives share Phelps’ sentiments. He may have gone a little over the top with his rhetoric but all the other deplorables are in his corner. Hopefully the system will be lenient.
At least he didn’t say he was going to kill Schiff, only that he wanted to. That’s like stoning Jimmy Carter for adultery because he lusted in his heart. Millions of Americans “want” to kill Schiff with their bare hands too. They just know better than to email Schiff to say so.
The charges are serious
Conservative Americans were outraged at the kangaroo court that Adam Schiff presided over in the House of Representatives. The whole thing was an obvious partisan sham. By the time impeachment moved over to the Senate, it was clear that the only thing the Democrats had to offer was partisan hearsay and innuendo. Schiff and his cronies were totally unable to list a single crime that President Donald Trump was alleged to have committed. That’s because he didn’t do anything wrong. It was nothing but an expensive waste of everyone’s time.
Now Mr. Phelps is charged with “threatening to assault and murder Schiff with the intent to impede, intimidate or interfere with his official duties, including the impeachment proceedings.” One angry rant at the keyboard could get him 10 years in federal prison.
It gets worse. Deplorable Mr. Phelps was also charged with “making interstate threats.” That’s good for another maximum five-year prison term. If the judge really wanted to throw the book at him on both of those he could do them back to back for 15 years. Even serving them together would be an outrageous penalty in comparison with the crime.
Contrast what Robert Phelps is looking at with what happened to Christopher Wray. He lied to the FBI, which is a crime, but walked away scot free. When deep state conspirators go free after plotting to overthrow the oval office, while patriots like Robert Phelps are threatened with hard time, it proves the Department of Injustice has totally broken down to untrustworthy anarchy.
