This past weekend, Donald Trump was supposed to hold a rally in Iowa.

The rally was canceled at the last minute.

One reason was given, and there was also speculation as to why this happened.

Ron DeSantis also took the opportunity to make a move.

I’ll Go

After tornado warnings were given in the area where Trump was supposed to hold his rally, he canceled it.

Some said that was just the excuse Trump needed because attendance was not going to be high.

Trump’s campaign says that is nonsense; the event was sold out and they were only concerned about their supporters.

Regardless of the reason, the event did not go on and Ron DeSantis was already in town for a smaller event.

So what did he do?

DeSantis showed up at Jethro’s BBQ Southside to talk to voters.

What is the relevance of this?

Well, the restaurant is only a few minutes away from where the Trump rally was supposed to be, so this was a calculated move by DeSantis.

He even took a few silent jabs at Trump when addressing the crowd, stating, “My better half and I have been able to be all over Iowa today, but before we went back to Florida we wanted to come by and say hi to the people of Des Moines.

“So thank you all for coming out. It’s a beautiful night, it’s been a great day for us.”

Beautiful night… we know why he said that.

Trump’s team went into counterpunch mode immediately.

The campaign stated, “In the interest of the safety of everyone in Iowa at the sold-out event in Des Moines, due to the National Weather Service’s Tornado Watch in effect in Polk and surrounding counties, we were unfortunately forced to postpone the event.

“We will be there at the first available date.

“Trump is dominating in poll after poll – both nationally and statewide.

“There is nobody else who can generate the type of enthusiasm and support like he can.

“There were thousands of supporters who had RSVP’d for the rally, which would have eclipsed the tiny crowds others are so proud of.”

Trump’s Twitter guy also spent most of the last two days slamming DeSantis and making fun of his smaller events.

Here is my concern…

Regardless of who wins this race, I really don’t think DeSantis voters will pull the handle for Trump and I am almost positive that Trump would not ask his supporters to pull the handle for DeSantis, which means they will not do it.

How does either side expect to win a general election with such a large part of the GOP base sitting on the sidelines?
