Biden’s tone was optimistic as he told people he was going to fix particular problems that he spent his career making. One example is manufacturing jobs, which Trump brought back in a ground breaking fashion by getting rid of NAFTA and negotiating the agreement between the US and Mexico or USMCA. But Biden voted for NAFTA and for China to receive best nation treatment which hurt those jobs.
Biden spoke about taxes
He spoke about it being unfair, yes, but to the wrong earners. Corporations supposedly have tons of loopholes and they can afford expensive accountants to get out of paying their fair share. But his career has wound up costing those same high earners more instead of less. He’s had plenty of time to work on bringing taxes down.
Police reform was on the speech menu with the president doing the opposite. He sponsored the 1994 crime bill that wound up putting more people in jail instead of the reverse.
Biden doesn’t walk the talk
He spoke of unity while accusing Republicans of trying to restrict minority voters with a ballot integrity system. He accused the Republicans of assaulting Paul Pelosi when it was a crazed hippy illegally in the country in a protected Democrat “sanctuary city”.
The president was heckled and booed when he said Republicans were trying to phase Social Security and Medicare out. They were supposedly using the debt standoff to do it. The two programs have been in financial trouble for many years. Rep. Paul Ryan did try to reform, not end them. He wanted to save them. But neither program is on the table now.
Biden doesn’t want reform
He attacked anybody who suggested that it be done. He boasted he was bringing inflation down when it was his own spending during COVID that made them start to spiral out of control. The president has been hostile to the gas and oil industry. The initial price spike when he first took office came from canceling the Keystone pipeline.
Trump really stood up to China while the president downplayed China’s influence and any significance the balloon played. He took care of it only after it had completed its journey through the states. Biden said, “Before I came to office, the story was about how the People’s Republic of China was increasing its power and America was falling in the world.”
