37-year-old José Paulino Pascual-Reyes has admitted to and been charged in the deaths of his girlfriend and her young son.
According to Tallapoosa County authorities, Pascual-Reyes provided self-incriminating information during a statement about the death of 29-year-old Sandra Vazquez Ceja and her son.
Prosecutors shared the statements during a motion requesting the judge to order Pascual-Reyes to provide a DNA sample.
Their hopes are to use the sample to compare with evidence that had been discovered at the home where the bodies of Ceja and her son were found.
County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett revealed that Reyes is originally from Mexico, having been in the U.S. illegally after being deported and returning without appropriate documentation.
Reyes’ defense team requested a Spanish interpreter for the court proceedings, which has been approved by the judge.
When The Epoch Times reached out to the defense attorneys for comment on the case, they were met with silence.
Reyes has been charged with capital murder, kidnapping, and corpse abuse, all of which could lead to a sentence of death, if convicted.
Reyes has not entered a plea as of yet.
The body of Ceja and her son were discovered by police after Ceja’s daughter fled the home, having been held against her will for days.
Luckily, a motorist picked up the young girl, which led to a search of the home by authorities.
