Biden Admin Investigating One of His Companies

The Biden administration is investigating one of Musk’s companies because it might have violated animal welfare laws. Neuralink is working on connecting humans and computers through a brain interface. A few employees claimed that because Musk wanted some things rushed, mistakes were made on animals. As a result, more animals needed to be killed due to botched surgeries.

The administration is after Musk

The report investigated him because of possible violations of the Animal Welfare Act that “regulates the treatment of animals in research, teaching, testing, exhibition, transport, and by dealers”. But the report admits the company treats its animals well in comparison to other facilities.

Employees were interviewed and it was found that “Neuralink treats animals quite well compared to other research facilities.” Executives spoke of building a “Monkey Disneyland” at one facility and a “monkey Taj Mahal” at another.

Have alleged that because of his push to get products to human testing, mistakes were made. Surgeries might have been screwed up and the experiment needs to be conducted again.

The animals might need to be killed at the end of the experiment anyway to conduct post mortem research as to whether the experiment worked at all. Some mistakes are relatively small, such as implanting into the wrong vertebra or the wrong device was implanted.

That clinical trials were coming up in the next six months. The goal of these efforts is to help disabled people be able to move and communicate.

This needs to work right! It’s going slow but it has to be done correctly. “We want to be extremely careful and certain that it will work well before putting a device into a human. The progress at first, particularly as it applies to humans, will seem perhaps agonizingly slow, but we are doing all of the things to bring it to scale in parallel. So, in theory, progress should be exponential.”
