Trump Derangement Syndrome lives on in many people, among them Liz Cheney. She said she’d leave the Republican party if Trump was the nominee. Many thought she’d already left! She’s hoping to stop two Republicans, both Trump and Kari Lake in Arizona. She voted to impeach Trump and is the co chair of the January 6 select committee. She lost re-election in her state by a huge margin, 66% – 29%.
Cheney hoping to keep Trump out of office
She’s hinted in the past about a presidential run but wasn’t talking about it this time. “It’s not about me or making a decision about what I’m going to do. I certainly will do whatever it takes to make sure Donald Trump isn’t anywhere close to the Oval Office. I’m going to make sure Donald Trump, make sure he’s not the nominee. And if he is the nominee, I won’t be a Republican.”
Cheney is worried about the peaceful transfer of power. “What are we going to do to make sure that our kids know what it means to have peaceful transfers of power? And what are we going to do to make sure that we don’t contribute to the unraveling of the republic? … That’s what I’m focused on.”
Cheney lost in a landslide
Trump endorsed Harriet Hageman was her challenger. Hageman is another she won’t help. In fact, she might campaign for Democrats in some places.
Cheney will help Katie Hobbs as much as she can. “I am going to do everything I can to make sure that Kari Lake is not elected.”
Not rooting for Democrats though
She’s not hoping Democrats will hold onto the majority of seats. She actually agrees policies coming out of the Biden administration aren’t great.
The key she wants to get across is Republicans are bad. “I think it’s really important though, as voters are going to vote, that they recognize and understand what the Republican Conference consists of in the House of Representatives today.”
