Gruesome New Details About Brian Laundrie

Gruesome new details have emerged in the death of Brian Laundrie, who was suspected of killing his fiancé, Gabby Petito while the two traveling on a “vanlife” trip across the United States together.

Laundrie, 23, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, which caused extensive fractures in his skull, according to a recently released report from a Florida medical examiner’s office. The full autopsy and forensic report revealed that a single bullet entered his brain at the left temple and exited through the right, traveling in a slightly upward trajectory.

His body was discovered at the 25,000-acre Carlton Reserve near his parents’ home in North Port, Florida, on October 20th, 2021, but not many details about the discovery were released to the public until now.

The new report reveals gruesome details including the fact that his scattered bones had been gnawed on by a variety of rodents and feral dogs following his death.

Authorities recovered “the vast majority of [his] skeleton” — aside from a few bones from his teeth and his face — scattered “in plain sight,” they stated.

According to the report, Laundrie’s bones showed signs of “gnawing and chewing” from “post-mortem scavenging/carnivore activity” — including on portions of his arms and legs.

“These areas are consistent with carnivores and/or omnivores including canines such as feral dogs and coyotes along with rodents and raccoons,” the report added.

The document also noted that Laundrie’s toxicology report showed no signs of drug use.

Personal items belonging to Laundrie were also found at the scene by authorities, including a pair of green shorts, slip-on shoes, a white metal ring, a backpack, and a handgun, which police have identified as a Windicator revolver with two live rounds and one used round of ammunition. The scene was secluded by “overgrown vegetation,” the report stated.

At a nearby “secondary” scene, police discovered animal skeletal remains, a handwritten half note, a “MOAB Coffee Roasters” hat, and a drybag containing Laundrie’s journal and a wooden box with a notebook and a photograph of himself.

The medical examiners have reported that they believe Laundrie’s body was submerged in up to 3 feet of water in the Florida swamp “for an extended period of time.”

His remains were finally found after the swamp waters receded. In the process of searching the scene, police uprooted the dirt in the area, placed it into 5-gallon tubs, and sifted through it for evidence such as additional bones and personal items.

Laundrie’s remains were officially identified using dental records, as well as genetic material taken from one of his teeth, and two femur bones that they were able to match using DNA swabs taken from his parents.
