The ordinary citizens of Portland, Oregon are officially sick and tired of violent Democrat antics. Even rainbow sock wearing Mayor Ted Wheeler finally admitted a small piece of reality. Over ten solid months of burning and looting have taken a toll.
Portland sick and tired
City officials in rabidly progressive Portland, Oregon, including the antifa-enabling Mayor, are finally coming face-to-face with the reality of Democrat insurrection. This is no peaceful protest, they admit at long last.
Riots now break out at the drop of a court verdict. “The community is sick and tired of people engaging in criminal destruction and violence and doing it under the guise of some noble cause,” Mayor Ted Wheeler finally acknowledges.
On Monday night, he and the rest of the local leaders threw a press conference. Even liberal AP calls Portland a “hotbed of civil unrest” but to the federal government, only deplorable Trump Supporters can commit insurrection.
Ever since the alleged killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, liberal anarchists organized under the Antifa banner and fashionably dressed in Black Lives Matter riot gear were provided with an ample supply of gasoline and improvise weapons to turn them into a rabble army.
BLM burned and looted their way across America but Portland is one of their key strongholds. Widespread “arson, looting and assaults” have become a nightly occurrence. Rioters have been emboldened because their calls to defund the local police were so successful.
Repeatedly, they have targeted the federal courthouse with graffiti and setting fires in the vicinity. Of course, nearby storefronts and other property took the brunt of the violence.
Hostage to petty crime
U.S. attorney for the District of Oregon, Scott Erik Asphaug, is fed up with it himself. “The people who work here support the voices of racial and social justice and will not be intimidated from doing our jobs by the ugly graffiti or broken windows.”
Not only that, the feds watching over Portland do not “confuse the voices of the many with the shouts of the few who hope to hold our city hostage by petty crime and violence.” Even if they do have to answer to Imperial Leader Joe Biden now.
For weeks, federal officers were standing guard outside the heavily barricaded courthouse in downtown Portland. Recently, the barricades came down and the guards were sent home. It didn’t take long for the rioters to come back, setting fires over the weekend and trying to break into the courthouse.
As local news reported, “rioters smashed windows and blocked streets once again after police removed protective fencing from the courthouse. Some rioters threw objects at police, and more than a dozen people were arrested during the clash.”
The assistant Chief of Police for Portland has had enough. “I want to be clear that this was not a protest group,” Chris Davis declared.
“This was a group of people who have come to believe that they are entitled to damage other people’s property, threaten community members and assault police officers.”
