Behind this atrocity stands Mohammed Deif, the shadowy mastermind behind Hamas’ military wing whose chilling warning of “the enemy” being held to account has sent shockwaves across the Middle East.

The pseudonym used by Hamas’ terror chief Mohammed Deif means “guest” in Arabic – an apparent reference to him constantly moving around to elude detection.
According to Financial Review, he was known as Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri in the Khan Younis refugee camp during the 1960s. He had a reputation even then of using violence as a means to end the Israeli-Arab conflict – and was one of few who viewed Oslo Accords (which recognized both countries) as deeply betraying the resistance movement.
Deif’s disturbing message on airwaves came just before his terror organization launched thousands of rockets towards Israel while its fighters infiltrated its borders—marking this attack as one of largest on Jewish state in 50 years.
His message was as follows:
“In light of the continuing crimes against our people, in light of the orgy of occupation and its denial of international laws and resolutions, and in light of American and Western support, we’ve decided to put an end to all this.
So that the enemy understands that he can no longer reveal without being held to account.”
His nickname is evidence enough that he’s managed to dodge several Israeli assassination attempts throughout his career; earning him an iconic title within Palestinian circles – “the cat with nine lives”.
Despite having a soft side—Mkhaimar Abusada reported that he would make cartoons for others back when he shared prison cell with Ghazi Hamad—Deif has also killed dozens through suicide bombings including 1996 incident which took out over 50 civilians. We recently heard from him again when he declared Operation Al-Aqsa Storm which aims to ultimately destroy Israel after 16 year blockade imposed on Gaza Strip and recent incidents escalating tensions between two nations.
