The people of Alaska are starting to have a bit of a panic attack.
There is a major mining project that was expected to inject $8 billion into southwestern Alaska, but now it is on the chopping block.
The entire project could be trashed due to a recommendation from Joe Biden’s EPA.
Kill It
Alaska’s Pebble Mine is expected to play a significant role in green energy in this country.
The mine will produce many of the minerals needed for green energy production.
The downside to this is the waste created in the mining of these mines, which the EPA says will be harmful to local fisheries in Alaska.
This conclusion was made even though the Army Corps of Engineers study said the mine would have no meaningful impact.
Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Jason Brune, “This isn’t just about Pebble … the precedent this is setting is frightening and will be used going forward by those wanting to stop projects and will send an absolutely chilling message to the investment world about opportunities in the U.S.”
PLP CEO John Shively added, “EPA is not only taking significant tax and royalties from the citizens of Alaska but is also taking away contributions to the Permanent Fund and the dividends it provides to our people.
“In addition, EPA gives little to no consideration to the critical role copper will play in our nation’s transition to more renewable sources of power.”
So, what do you know… clean energy is not all that clean after all.
