Guess who was just arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol in California? You probably wouldn’t have guessed it, but it’s House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul.
The 82-year-old Paul Pelosi was pulled over and arrested for a DUI just before midnight in Napa County, California.
TMZ reported that Paul Pelosi was booked “hours later” into jail for the DUI as well as driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or higher, per the public booking report.
The charges set against him are misdemeanors and bond has been set at $5,000.
Records revealed that Pelosi’s husband was booked into the jail around 4:13 a.m. and then released at exactly 7:26 a.m.
It appears that Nancy was not with her husband during the incident, as she was busy in Rhode Island delivering a commencement address to graduates at Brown University.
“The Speaker will not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast,” Drew Hammill, a spokesman for the Speaker, told Fox News.
The pair have been married for many years, since 1963 in fact, and share five children. Paul Pelosi is known to be the founder of Financial Leasing Services, which is an investment firm located in San Francisco.
The New York Post shares that while typically Paul Pelosi prefers to maintain a low profile “in March, he bought $2.2 million in Tesla stock as some in Congress proposed banning lawmakers and their spouses from stock trading.”
“Critics on both sides of the aisle think trades like Pelosi’s present a conflict of interest, given that Pelosi and other lawmakers have access to sensitive information and are responsible for enacting laws regulating businesses,” the report added.
There has been no additional details provided on the incident, nor if anyone else was in the car during the arrest.
