When Joe Biden first took office, he stated that this administration would be the most transparent administration in history.
I think it is safe to say that has not happened.
However, the media has allowed it, but with only four months left in Biden’s administration, they are finally pushing back. It got quite ugly in the briefing room last week.
What About Some Access
This past week, Joe Biden decided to move the Quad meeting with Japan, India, and Australia to Delaware.
Traditionally, the media would have been all over this event, but the White House noted that the media would only have limited access, and no press conferences.
Well, that did not sit will with numerous members of the press corps.
When White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked why the meeting was taking place there, she responded, “It was important to him to do something that he hadn’t done before. Bring them to his home city … But there’s going to be plenty of opportunities. It’s not like we’re not allowing all of you to see many other things that are going to develop throughout the day.
“I mean, I just went through them. A ‘Quad’ family photo, he’s going to take them to his high school. You all are gonna be there.
“There’s going to be a very important announcement about Cancer Moonshot, you are all going to be there … Can you also appreciate that we have created other opportunities?”
Newsmax’s James Rosen cut her off, stating, “They’re called photo ops. That’s what you’ve created.
“They’re not a press conference, which we would prefer.”
CBS News senior White House correspondent Ed O’Keefe was also clearly agitated, stating, “What I was going to suggest is, it baffles people in this room, especially people who are watching this and wondering why we harp on these kinds of things, what baffles us is this is a president who from day one committed to be the most transparent president possible, who has given speeches at various events saying that he stands for and respects the freedom of the press.
“And here is a great opportunity while standing with the leader from the world’s largest democracy, India, and two other key democracies who are from a region of the world who is struggling to maintain democracy.
“Why not face questions from reporters of the free press in that setting?”
As the weekend played out, it became quite apparent why they did not want the media to have access to Biden.
Biden had a meltdown on the podium during a public ceremony, forgetting who he was supposed to introduce and snapping at staff in the process.
At some point, we will find out who really ran this administration, but it won’t be anytime soon if Harris winds up winning this election.
