Saturday Night Live or SNL got shown a mirror when it invited Shane Gillis back. He was fired in 2019 for the same material. Comedy has its basis in truth which begs the question about progressive media. They can’t handle the truth so it’s anybody’s guess as to whether Gillis will be invited back. He knew straight away people would Google his past so he put it front and center. The media bit.
Comedy can be uncomfortable
People might not want to look at that truth. It’s uncomfortable. Embarrassing. Progressives would scream racism, sexism and homophobia among other labels and would insist the perpetrator be shut up.
Attacks included NPR TV critic Eric Deggans putting up the shields, insisting Gillis was insulating himself. “Much of it felt like Gillis’ attempt to insulate himself from criticism and avoid any jokes that could revive the backlash.” Deggans’ headline was, “Shane Gillis struggles in a ‘Saturday Night Live’ monologue which avoids the obvious.”
Comedy is healthy
It helps to laugh at unpleasant things happening in our world today. People are thinking about these things and not allowed to talk about it. Gillis doesn’t care. He put things out there whether people like it or not.
It’s the irony of SNL. It can’t be ignored. The show says it wants diverse voices, yet by its own admission it crossed decency lines. It claims inclusivity yet has included those who it originally thought shouldn’t be included.
Comedy is needed
Truth is needed. Gillis is succeeding in a world that panders to progressive politics. He dares to speak out against it. Bud Light is partnering with him to try to relieve the disaster of partnering with Dylan Mulvaney. He’s on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast regularly with the same humor that SNL considered offensive in 2019.
“Shane Gillis Live in Austin” has 23 million views in two years on YouTube. The comedian has turned the tables on the show that fired him. The best revenge is success.
