Russian authorities announced on Sunday the death of former Wagner Group Chief, Yevgeny Prigozhin.

DNA was found near the crash site near Tver which confirmed his presence and eventual passing.

President Vladimir Putin acknowledged his presumed death by saying he “made serious mistakes in his life”, though many have speculated without evidence that Putin was behind the plane crash.

Alongside Prigozhin, his right-hand man Dmitry Utkin and eight others are believed to have been on board the flight when it tragically went down last week.

This news comes shortly after reports this June of a daylong mutiny against the Russian military leadership by Prigozhin’s men, for which President Vladimir Putin decried as “treason” and vowed punishment, but then chose to cut a deal not to prosecute him.

Yevgeny Prigozhin was an intelligent businessman who had built up quite the reputation for himself over the years, from founding The Wagner Group to being involved in various political endeavours including financing election campaigns and lobbying work for important politicians – he had made quite a name for himself across Russia and beyond.

Even recently being linked with multiple government projects such as agricultural production facilities, construction sites and educational institutions, it is clear that he played an integral role in Russia’s development during his lifetime.
