Donald Trump has been a few moves ahead of Joe Biden this entire campaign, and he just forced Biden’s hand again.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been asking for Secret Service protection for months.
Up until now, the independent candidate has been refused, but Trump’s assignation attempt and a statement by Trump has more or less forced the hand of the Department of Homeland Security.
Give the Man Protection
Joe Biden did not want to recognize Kennedy because he knew Kennedy was a threat to his presidency.
But, after the assassination attempt of Trump, the former president called out the Biden administration for not giving Kennedy protection.
Donald Trump stated, “In light of what is going on in the world today, I believe it is imperative that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receive Secret Service protection — immediately.
“Given the history of the Kennedy Family, this is the obvious right thing to do!”
Within hours, Secretary Mayorkas announced that Secret Service protection would be provided for Kennedy.
Secretary Mayorkas stated, “In light of this weekend’s events, the president has directed me to work with the Secret Service to provide protection to Robert Kennedy Jr.”
Based on how the Secret Service protected Trump, I don’t know how comforting that will be, but at least he finally has his detail.
Watching the videos of the shooting and Trump’s cover and move detail, I would imagine there will be a need for significant training.
First, numerous agents assigned to Trump were far shorter than the former president, which left his head exposed after the shooting.
Secondly, at one point, one of the agents bends over to pick up Trump’s hat rather than covering Trump, leaving him completely exposed on the front.
Not to mention, the agents never should have permitted him to show his face and raise his fist like that.
Yes, it was an iconic picture, but the agents are not there to listen to Trump, they are there to protect him, and in that moment, as well as virtually the entire transport to the car, Trump’s head was exposed, as were parts of his chest.
Had there been a second shooter, they would have had multiple clean shots to take out Trump.
Trump is truly lucky to have not only turned at precisely the right moment, but he is lucky this was a lone actor because the breakdowns in security that day were abhorrent.
How that Director still has a job is beyond me.
