The debt ceiling was looming. If a deal wasn’t reached the worldwide consequences could have been disastrous. Past presidents have often had to deal with a hostile Congress so they knew it was necessary to work on this beforehand. But not Biden. He looked at this and said, “I got this”. He’s dealt with Corn Pops and got arrested attempting to visit Nelson Mandela while in prison. Biden’s tough.
Biden acts tough
The president acts tough but isn’t. It’s just a front. The real strategy was that the dividing line with Republicans is so thin he thought he could peel off a few GOP to get it done without much concessions or cuts.
That turned out to be wrong. For a short time Biden thought he could use the 14th Amendment to force it through. Nope. He was forced into a deal that suspends the debt limit through January 2025, cuts back nondefense spending to 2022 levels and reclaims funds marked for both the IRS and COVID.

Nobody liked it
But Biden signed it. He didn’t take into account what others have. The president barely taking care of this is still reason for his campaign to take a victory lap.
The ad crows, “President Biden delivers again for the U.S. economy! When MAGA Republicans threatened to wreck the U.S. economy, President Biden took charge, secured a bipartisan agreement and prevented chaos, all while protecting Social Security, health care and other critical programs.” In case the message didn’t come across, “President Biden delivers for us again!”

The MAGA Republicans
This crisis was all their fault. And the ad isn’t just a one off put together by an intern that only the Democratic faithful will see. The DNC is putting its back into it.
“The Biden team and the Democratic National Committee are launching a six-figure ad campaign Monday touting the bipartisan agreement that the president reached with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy last month to lift the debt ceiling in exchange for some spending restraints and restrictions on food aid eligibility. The spots, which were first shared with Politico, make the case that Biden managed to protect essential government programs as well as his own accomplishments in the face of far-right Republicans who wanted to strip them away during the high-stakes talks over the debt ceiling. And that he did it all while avoiding a devastating outcome that would have hampered the economy.”
