Thanks to the quick thinking of authorities, a terror plot was thwarted by Brazilian police following the arrest of two individuals in the Sao Paulo state. It is believed that these two suspects were connected to the Lebanese militia Hezbollah and had plans to target Jewish community buildings.
The Federal Police also executed 11 search warrants in three areas of the country, looking for evidence of extremism recruitment.

Local newspaper O Globo reported that one of the suspects was apprehended when they returned to the international airport in Sao Paulo, carrying information which could have been used for an attack. Additionally, there are two more targets within Lebanon who authorities are looking into arresting as well.
The Brazilian Israelite Confederation expressed their gratitude to law enforcement for their swift action in foiling this plan on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). They emphasized that “tragic conflicts” from the Middle East should not be allowed to interfere with peaceful coexistence between different communities within Brazil.
The group stated, “The tragic conflicts in the Middle East cannot be imported into our country, where different communities live peacefully, harmoniously and without fear of terrorism.”
This is especially true given how large Brazil’s Lebanese population is; many estimates indicate it surpasses even Lebanon itself.
