Hamas Hostage Gives Dark Details of Ordeal

Hamas has an entire “spider web” of tunnels under Gaza, one of the freed Israeli hostages relates. 85-year-old Yocheved Lifshitz “was freed from captivity Monday after being taken hostage from her home near the Gaza border at the outset of the war.

Hamas tunnels extensive

The network of Hamas tunnels beneath Gaza is a lot more extensive and elaborate than previously known. Thanks to intelligence delivered home by an elderly Israeli hostage, the troops will be better prepared to blow them up.

On Tuesday, October 24, Ms. Lifshitz described it as a giant “spiderweb.

The latest flare up of centuries old hostilities roared up with “a surprise attack on Israel by Hamas that killed more than 1,400 Israelis.” Israel vowed to retaliate decisively and has been bombing various military targets ever since.

They warned all the Palestinians to evacuate in preparation for a ground assault, which everyone is still expecting to start any moment. One of the things holding it back is release of the hostages. They sent a couple out but that’s been seen as more of a delaying tactic than honest negotiation.

First out was a pair of Americans, followed by Lifshitz and a fellow Israeli Nurit Cooper, 79. That’s a good start but “more than 200 people are believed to be held captive by Hamas.” Ms. Lifshitz relates she “went through hell” during her captivity.

The worst part was the original attack though. “She was beaten and sustained bruises during the October 7 surprise attack and during her capture.” After that, her captors became more reasonable.

Regular medical care

The former hostage relates that she can’t speak for all the hostages but the four others she was held captive with were all treated “reasonably.” They “received regular medical care.

Also, “they really took care of the sanitary side of things so that we didn’t get sick. They were very generous to us, very kind. They kept us clean. They took care of every detail.” That’s good to know but doesn’t improve the PR image of Hamas all that much.

The thing that ticks her off the most was the way the internal security service Shin Bet blew it by not taking the threats of Hamas seriously. “The lack of awareness by Shin Bet and the IDF hurt us a lot,” she declared.

They warned us three weeks beforehand, they burned fields, they sent fire balloons and the IDF did not treat it seriously.

While the tanks are all lined up and ready to roll, the “Israeli military completely locked down Gaza from its borders, preventing humanitarian aid from entering the territory before Saturday. Humanitarian leaders now say the small amount of aid permitted to enter Gaza was not enough and will likely have to stop soon as fuel supplies dwindle.

If everyone fled as they’re supposed to, nobody would need all that aid. The best advice the world can give Hamas is get the heck out of there before the whole Gaza strip turns into one big sheet of glass. The IDF is about to melt those tunnels right into the sand.
