A group of Republicans that joined the Problem Solvers Caucus are now getting ready to leave the group.

This is supposed to be a bipartisan group to fix Congress, not break it.

After the ousting of Kevin McCarthy, GOP members are wondering what they are doing there.

Time to Go

As Rep. Gaetz (R-FL) was threatening to remove Speaker McCarthy (R-CA), Republicans in the Caucus started to talk to their Democrat counterparts about defeating this vote.

This would have been a great opportunity for the PSC to show unity and defeat someone who is perceived to be an extremist in the party.

Prior to the Democrats holding their own caucus meeting, Republicans in the PSC thought they had a deal and would have enough votes to offset the handful of Republicans who were going to vote to remove McCarthy.

Minority Leader Jeffries (D-N.Y.) must have shot down the idea, with every Democrat voting to remove McCarthy.

Keep in mind, this is also someone who rages about partisanship all the time, so he could have put this move by Gaetz down, but he chose to side with the “extremist.”

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.), who is a member of the PSC, stated, “I’m really thinking strongly about leaving the Problem Solvers Caucus.

“I think there’s a lot of Republicans who are disenchanted with the Democratic members of the Problem Solvers Caucus.

“I’m very frustrated that none of the members who claim to be centrist… would work with us to defeat this motion to vacate.

“If their whole purpose is to bring good governance and make sure that we can continue our work to get through this appropriations process in the next 40 days, they should have done the right thing here, which would have been to… keep Congress working.”

That sentiment was expressed by just about every Republican in the PSC, so it would appear that rather than solving a problem, the caucus created even more division in the House.
