Looks like Disney is right back in the headlines as the company is facing a major lawsuit after a woman suffered a horrific accident that left her gushing blood. According to the lawsuit filed by Emma McGuinness, she suffered severe injuries after sliding down a waterslide at 40 mph, which resulted in her receiving a wedgie.
The lawsuit alleges that Disney failed to disclose the potential risks associated with the ride and is seeking over £40,000 in damages.
McGuinness had been celebrating her 30th birthday at Disney World when she decided to go down the Humunga Kowabunga waterslide located in Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon waterpark. She claims hitting a pool of water at the bottom at speed caused her severe injuries as water was forced inside her body and clothing became painfully forced between her legs.
After being rushed to hospital for treatment, it was discovered she had suffered extensive vaginal lacerations and damage to internal organs requiring specialist care.
Exhibit A in the lawsuit showed a photo of McGuinness wearing a full-coverage one-piece swimming costume similar to what she was wearing when going down the slide.
The documents argue that due to its height (214ft), riders are put under immense force which can push loose-fitting garments into their anatomy – creating more serious issues for women than men due to their anatomy.
Furthermore, they state that risks were not adequately disclosed by Disney before allowing guests on the ride – leading them to seek financial compensation for their losses.
This isn’t the first time that there have been issues with safety procedures over rides at Disney World; other incidents include four guests falling “extremely sick” after eating lettuce wraps crawling with live insects, and an elderly great-grandmother who was arrested for possession of CBD oil despite it being legal in Florida.
In 2018, there was even an incident where a worker fell into vat of oil near Disney World and almost died as result.
